Cynthia Tierney Endowed Scholarship

Cindy’s vision included financial assistance for students who otherwise could not afford nursing education. She developed her vision based on her own education and work in a range of healthcare positions. Cindy was an alumna of Madison College’s Practical and Associate Degree Nursing programs. She completed her Bachelor and Master of Science in Nursing degrees at Viterbo College. Her career included positions as a nurse at Divine Savior Hospital, Portage and as a member of the Portage Area Emergency Medical Services staff. She taught EMT courses at Madison College-Reedsburg and was an officer in the Army Reserve Nurse Corps, stationed in Nuremberg, Germany during Operation Desert Storm. Cindy’s approach to learning emphasized critical thinking while making the process enjoyable. She looked forward to sharing her experiences and knowledge with students seeking to become the next generation of skilled nursing professionals when she was scheduled to take a nursing faculty position at Madison College Reedsburg just prior to her cancer diagnosis in summer 2004. She passed away November 3, 2004. Cindy is survived by her husband, Bill and two children, Adam and Elizabeth, along with many other family members and friends. To fulfill Cindy’s vision, Bill established the Cynthia Tierney Endowed Nursing Scholarship to help student nurses complete their training at Madison College-Reedsburg. Columbia County resident preferred. Donor: Bill Tierney
